Matthieu Mantovani

About

Award-winning director Matthieu Mantovani, also known as “Beyond_Human”, has established himself on the international scene through his innovative visual style. Considered a visionary, Matthieu has a remarkable talent for immersing the viewer in deeply artistic mise-en-scènes and highly cinematic worlds, combining a conceptual approach with a contemporary vision. His work is recognised for the quality of its casting and the clarity of its storytelling, blending narrative, humour and emotion. A radical, deeply involved and prolific director, he continually develops creative concepts, with a strong command of visual effects and AI, which is also one of the major strengths of his work.

Alongside his directing work, under the name Beyond Human, he has developed over the past few years a visual art practice at the intersection of photography, installation and generative technologies. Since 2021, Matthieu Mantovani has been exploring the artistic and critical potential of artificial intelligence. What began as visual experimentation gradually evolved into a broader reflection on our relationship with images, truth, memory and contemporary systems of representation. In 2023, he founded Année Zéro, a label dedicated to artists exploring generative technologies and new forms of creation. Conceived as a collective and a space for reflection, Année Zéro brings together international artists from this first generation working with AI and organises exhibitions. His work has been exhibited in Paris as part of Terra Mirabilis, at the Musée des Arts et Métiers, at Galerie 54 Dunkerque and at the FOMO Festival, and has been featured in many magazines. In 2025, several of his works and installations were presented at the AI Summit in Paris, including T.R.U.M.P (Truth Redirected Using Manipulated Pictures), a machine connected in real time to news agency feeds and capable of automatically generating fake images from real information. The work directly questions the manipulation of information and the collapse of the image as a form of truth in contemporary society.

Today, Matthieu Mantovani continues to work across directing, fiction development and artistic research. He is represented by Adéquat.
